WP News: Danger of warning for stores & discussion about new JS framework for WP?

Last week, possible candidates for a new JavaScript framework were discussed in the community. In addition, there have recently been extended information requirements for online store operators. And we have all the innovations of WordPress 4.8 at a glance.

New JavaScript framework for WP

In a meeting of the JavaScript Core team, the switch to a new JavaScript framework for WordPress Core was discussed. The debate is currently mainly about the pros and cons of React.js and Vue.js. According to the meeting minutes, the majority of team members currently favor React, as the framework is already used for Calypso, the new editor Gutenberg and Jetpack. In addition, WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg is in favor of React. A final decision is still pending.

The fact that React was developed by Facebook is viewed critically by some community members: WordPress, as an open source project, should not make itself dependent on a large company like Facebook. Vue.js fans also swear by its beginner-friendliness and extension possibilities.

New information obligation for online shop operators

Since the first of February 2017, online store operators have been subject to new information requirements regarding out-of-court dispute resolution (see Alternative Dispute Resolution in Consumer Matters Act, §37). Accordingly, online retailers must clearly indicate in their terms and conditions and on their websites whether and to what extent they are obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. The obligation to participate exists from a company size of eleven employees. It is important that when participating in dispute resolution proceedings - whether mandatory or voluntary - the address and website of the responsible consumer arbitration board must be stated.

This regulation is an extension of the existing obligation of shop operators to inform consumers about the dispute resolution platform of the European Commission. It has been in effect since the beginning of January 2016. Many online shop operators who do not comply with this duty to inform have already been warned.
