In 2024, we introduced Raidboxes 2.0, a new server infrastructure, thereby fundamentally upgrading the technical foundation of our WordPress hosting. The goal was to make websites even faster, more stable, and more secure. You can find all the details about this change below:

Raidboxes 2.0 increases performance with twice the server performance, optimized container architecture and advanced caching. Live and staging also use separate resources.

Probably the most important new feature is the significant performance boost for all Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes, which have twice the resources available on the new servers. Dedicated vCores are available from Pro XL upwards.

With the adapted virtualization environment and the addition of RAM, your website will definitely have enough computing power at its disposal. In addition, the PHP memory limit will be raised so that your scripts do not abort or cannot be fully executed due to insufficient memory.

Our Varnish-based advanced caching allows you to selectively clear your website’s cache on a page-by-page basis. This is particularly important for large magazines and WooCommerce stores, as the cache of the rest of the website remains untouched and continues to deliver your content at lightning speed.

Thanks to the new container architecture, each service (web server, database, Varnish, etc.) now has its own independent system. This separation enables improved resource utilization, easier maintenance and better fault isolation. In addition, each service can be scaled and managed independently, which improves flexibility, resilience and scalability.

The container architecture also ensures that staging and the live website no longer share computing power with Raidboxes 2.0. Thanks to the staging environment’s own resources (CPU, RAM, SSD, etc.), the loading time and performance of your live website are no longer affected by staging. At the same time, the staging works as you know it from Raidboxes and allows a live push of your changes with one click.

Whether it’s a rush of visitors from newsletters, TV adverts, bot traffic or plugin processes: our server monitoring automatically recognises when your website needs more power and allocates more resources at lightning speed (in Fully Managed + Pro plans). This cushions the effect of short-term load peaks.

With dedicated hardware/CPU cores, our high-traffic plans (from Pro XL) guarantee maximum performance as the cores are exclusively available to you. This means: no shared resources and always full computing power – regardless of whether you fully use them or not.

The new Raidboxes Security Shield is automatically included in all our hosting plans and protects your website. It monitors the incoming traffic on your website. Malicious bots, brute force attacks and DDoS attacks are detected and can be blocked at an early stage so that you can sleep soundly at night. The Raidboxes Security Shield includes the following features:

Our web application firewall monitors incoming traffic and blocks malicious requests and unwanted bots – for a website that is secure around the clock.

Our new Exploit Detector monitors the network traffic and behavior of the Apache server, checks new pages for suspicious scripts and files, detects known and suspicious exploits and reports them to ensure the security of the server.

Our new DDoS protection automatically fends off attacks by scanning sites for malicious traffic, limiting unauthorized visits and redirecting them away from the site. As a result, DDoS, DoS and brute force attacks are quickly detected and blocked.

The .htaccess file can be edited on the new infrastructure – ideal for agencies and freelancers who want to implement specific requirements. In addition, upgrades without IP changes, improved database management with phpMyAdmin and a faster WordPress backend allow you to manage and use your website much more efficiently.

If you want to use the .htaccess file, it can be edited on the new infrastructure. For example, you can store special bulk content and speed up your workflow. We only recommend this for experts. You can find instructions on how to do this in our Help Center.

PhpMyAdmin replaces SQL Adminer and offers a more comprehensive user interface. With more functions and a better overview, it makes it easier to manage and organize your database. The extended search function, relational displays and extensive export/import options support more complex projects and make work more efficient.
