Best Survey Plugins WordPress

The best survey plugins for WordPress

There are plenty of WordPress and WooCommerce plugins out there for creating surveys, polls and quizzes on your website. You can use these tools to collect opinions, ideas and feedback from your readers. For this guide, we've tried out various survey plugins to help you find the right one for your blog or website.

Surveys aren't the same as comments

Anyone who runs a website, a blog or an online shop with WordPress usually wants to enter into dialogue with their target group. As a shop owner, you may be looking for interest in products, variants or price models. Or perhaps you want to ask opinions on a topic in your magazine or need feedback on your products and services in support.

Even if WordPress already offers a channel for feedback and exchange with the comment function, it's too much effort for most users to submit their name, email address and then a comment with added value on top. Even then, having to even check regularly whether there's a reply is asking too much of users. All the examples described above can also be solved in a much easier way – with a survey.

What can survey plugins actually do?

A survey usually contains one or more questions what you want to ask your readers. Your readers then answer the questions using options that you set beforehand. Depending on how complex you need the results to be, however, these can of course also be empty fields, text fields or sliders.

Users can express their opinions in this way with just a few clicks and without much effort. Over time, this results in a valuable pool of data you can use to improve your blog, shop or service.

Important: Don't forget privacy in surveys!

If you want to include a survey on your website, you need to consider the directives of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Even if you don't save the collected data in a format that allows conclusions to be drawn about the individual users, it's likely the plugin itself does. You may be obliged to collect visitor consent. Clarify this point with a law firm specialized in online law.

But the question is: What is the best way to implement such surveys on your site ? In the plugin directory of WordPress you can find numerous results by searching for the terms "Survey " - alternatively "Poll" or "Quiz". To some extent you can also implement surveys with a normal contact form plugin for WordPress and WooCommerce , see our article Contact form plugins for WordPress - the best in comparison.

To save you the trouble of doing it yourself, we've installed and tested the best surveys plugins and have the results ready for you below.

This is particularly practical for nested or dependent questions.

This WordPress plugin can also be used to create contact forms, quizzes and all kinds of calculators. The basic version is sufficient for most applications. If you want more, you have to switch to the premium version, which costs between 49 and 300 USD. The premium version allows you, for example, to connect a CRM or create surveys with several pages. Thanks to its great functionality, you may be able to cover other applications with this extension – especially if you plan your plugin use well in advance. This versatility helps put the costs into perspective.

The basic version of Poll, Survey & Quiz is free of charge. If you want more, you'll need to spend between 19 and 199 US dollars. It's a tad annoying that the developers base the price heavily on the views of the surveys: you'll have to use the paid version if your surveys are loaded more than 250 times per month. Depending on where the polls are integrated, even small blogs are likely to reach this limit quickly. If you place your survey in the sidebar, you only need 9 clicks per day to exceed this threshold.

The plugin is currently running on over 10,000 WordPress installations and currently receives 4.5 out of five stars from 250 reviews.

Conclusion: Surveys with WordPress are a breeze

From the selections of plugins in this guide – and the more than 500 other surveys tools in the WordPress plugin directory –  you can see that creating surveys, polls and quizzes is a piece of cake. The only thing that's a bit more complicated is the legal framework.

It goes without saying that you need to pay attention to GDPR and data protection. This applies especially to the storage of cookies, IP addresses and when asking for personal data within your surveys. An example of personal data collection would be if you want to connect your surveys with your CRM or newsletter program and gather leads. To avoid warnings here, you need to seek legal advice that analyzes your plugin and your planned surveys in detail.

As data is always transferred in these cases, problems or unanswered questions can arise if you don't create surveys directly on your site and instead integrate them via external providers, e.g. via iFrame. As a rule, the collection and storage of this information must be stated in your privacy policy and you should have the exact wording drawn up by professionally experienced persons.

It makes sense to find out in advance which plugin functions are free of charge. This way you don't have to wait until you've set up the site before you realize whether the functions you want might cost you something. Once you've cleared up these points, surveys and polls are a great way to get to know your readers better. If you know your readers' opinion about certain topics or your service, you can also make them happier. Or develop new content ideas from their feedback.
